The Senegalese economy is mainly based on the agriculture sector which occupies more than 60% of the active population. The Senegalese Agricultural Acceleration Program (PRACAS) aims at self-sufficiency in rice, among other objectives. PRACAS is being implemented to promote the production of high quality white rice in Senegal, with a target of 1.8 million tonnes, of which 1.6 million paddy rice in the short term. The total cost of PRACAS is about 74 billion CFA francs.
